This black commemorative plaque records: In honour of Mungo Park 1771-1806 explorer and cartographer of much of the West African interior. Medical alumnus of the university. Recorded plaque organisation: University of Edinburgh.
Mungo Park was a Scottish explorer and physician who significantly contributed to European knowledge of West Africa by mapping the course of the Niger River during his expeditions in 1795-1797 and 1805-1806.
