MULTIPERIOD CHURCH & GRAVEYARD (Early Christian-Modern) in Town Parks Magherafelt

MULTIPERIOD CHURCH & GRAVEYARD (Early Christian-Modern)

What is recorded here

Magherafelt’s multiperiod church and graveyard has marked the same ground from Early Christian times to the modern day, making it one of the longest continuous sacred landscapes in County Derry. People may have prayed, buried their dead and gathered beside those markers through every changing world above the same soil. The church and graveyard still stand as a scheduled ancient layer beneath ordinary town life.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as MULTIPERIOD CHURCH & GRAVEYARD (Early Christian-Modern). Recorded period: MED/L.MED; POST-MED; E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Early Christian to modern multiperiod church and graveyard; significant as a long-used sacred and burial site with medieval and post-medieval remains.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
