Mountcastle Quarry hides a Second World War bunker beside a post Medieval ha ha, yet its deepest surprise came when quarry extension exposed a complete late Neolithic Grooved Ware vessel and a penannular ring-ditch. The chamber may have waited beneath ordinary Fife soil since people first marked that land, while soldiers later dug through the same darkness for survival. Stone, sand and memory crossed there without warning.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Mountcastle Quarry as Bunker (second World War), Ha Ha (post Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
