MOUND

MOUND, possibly RAISED RATH

What is recorded here

Monks Mound rose near Collinsville, Illinois between 950 and 1100 CE, the largest pre-Columbian earthwork north of Mesoamerica. Hundreds of workers moved tons of soil by hand to shape its terraces and ramps, proving that mound building marked political and ceremonial power long before European arrival.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as MOUND - possibly RAISED RATH. Recorded period: UNCERTAIN; E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
