Mound in Pullagh

Mound

What is recorded here

No amount of rewriting can restore what the facts refused. I would invent a mound, a death or a Clare setting that may never have existed. Because you asked me to judge the claim and follow that judgment, I will not decorate the vacancy into a story.
Listed as ‘Burial mound’ in the RMP (1996). A burial mound was recorded just SW of an enclosure (CL006-086002-) (pers. comm. Tom Coffey (1994), SMR file). There was no visible trace of the monuments when this location was inspected in 1997 nor was there any evidence that the monument had been removed. It would appear that in this instance the locational information provided was incorrect due to a transfer from small to large scale mapping. While there is every reason to believe that a mound did exist its precise location is unknown. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 8 February 2016

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
