Mound in Cloghabreedy

On the S end of an N-W ridge, ground sloping away from the earthwork to the E. There is a lot of scrub immediately W of the monument and a gravel extraction pit (diam. c. 20m) immediately NE of the earthwork with spoil heaped up along outer face of the monument at this point. Kedrah Castle (TS075-032001-) is clearly visible c. 500m upslope to the E and Cloghbreeda Castle (TS075-030001-) is visible c. 200m upslope to the NW. On the 1st (1840) ed. 6-inch OS map the monument is depicted as being roughly circular and defined by a bank, however, on the 2nd (1901-05) ed. it is depicted as an oval mound in marshy terrain. The interior is heavily overgrown with scrub. Raised earthwork (H 1.6- 2.4m), oval in shape (overall diam. c. 45m NE-SW; c. 34m E-W).
