What is recorded here
No visible mound exists in Ballina, only a ghost duplicate pointing at Fert Echtra, the Princess Grave. The real chamber holds stone and memory while the phantom mound dissolves into mapping error.
This record is listed in the SMR (1991) and the RMP (1997) as a possible mound. No feature resembling a mound is indicted on the 1837 or 1930 OS 6-inch maps, and there are no references in the SMR files to a mound. It seems likely to be a duplicate record for the megalithic tomb (MA030-052001-), shown as ‘Fert Echtra’ or ‘Princess Grave’ on the OS 6-inch maps, perhaps referring to a cairn or mound over that grave.
