Mound in Alasty

Not recorded on the 1st ed. (1838) of the OS 6-inch map, but shown on the current (1939) ed. as a small circular mound (est. diam c. 20m), and visible as a cropmark on a 1971 aerial photograph (CUCAP BGM 74). On level, improved pasture, drained to the N by the small NW-flowing Painestown River. No longer visible at ground level. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011

A Neolithic burial mound, likely dating to the Early to Middle Bronze Age, based on its form and visibility as a cropmark; its survival and detectability in aerial photography indicate its archaeological significance despite limited documentary record.
