Cock Lane motte still stands as a twenty-metre mound of earth and memory, guarded by a deep dry ditch and marked by the hollow scar left when Evans dug into it in 1901. It is not a polished ruin but a living landscape of grass, soil and quiet danger, where the shape of a vanished castle can still be felt beneath the feet. Local story names Oddo as the buried heart of the place, giving the earth a human face and reminding us that even forgotten castles once belonged to someone.
