Motte castle 80m north east of Home Farm is a Norman earthwork built after 1066 to mark territorial control in Shropshire. The mound still stands as a scheduled monument, preserving the shape of a boundary drawn in soil rather than stone. It may have watched over fields, herds or passing traders, but that life has faded into the grass. What remains is the act of claiming, made visible in a heap of earth that never stopped being a warning.
