A narrow strip of land between Castle Street and Lower Craigo Street held modest flats through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. They may have given shelter to port workers, shopkeepers or travellers passing through Montrose. The junction still marks the edge of that forgotten domestic life, preserved only in the shape of the town itself.
