This blue commemorative plaque records: Pont Mynwy Codwyd Pont Mynwy tua 1270 i warchod y dref. Hi yw'r unig bont o'r canoloesoedd, a phothdy arni, sydd ar ol ym Mhrydain. Bu'r porthody yn ei dro yn dollborth, gwarchodfa, carchar a chartref. Recorded plaque organisation: Monmouth Civic Society.

Monnow Bridge was constructed around 1270 to protect the town; it is the only surviving medieval bridge with its gatehouse intact in Wales. The gatehouse served multiple functions including as a mint, guardhouse, prison, and residence.
