8th May 1915 THIS GROVE OF TREES HAS BEEN PLANTED IN REMEMBERANCE OF THE MEN OF THE MONMOUTHSHIRE REGIMENT (TERRITORIAL FORCE) WHO TOOK PART IN THE DEFENCE OF THE FREZENBERG RIDGE DURING THE SECOND BATTLE OF YPRES. .....
British Monmouthshire Regiment (Territorial Force) fought German forces during the Second Battle of Ypres in May 1915; their defense of the Frezenberg Ridge helped stabilize the Allied line amid the first use of poison gas in warfare.
