Mompesson's Well is a historic water source associated with the Mompesson family, who were prominent landowners in the Derbyshire Dales area during the 17th and 18th centuries. The well is named after Sir William Mompesson, a notable figure known for his role in the Salem witch trials and his later return to England, where he lived at Wood Newton Hall nearby.
