This blue commemorative plaque records: Subedar Mir Dast 1874-1945 VC IOM OBI 55th Coke's Rifles attached to 57th Wilde's Rifles FF. Received the Victoria Cross from King George V at the Royal Pavilion Military Hospital for bravery at Ypres. Recorded plaque organisation: Brighton Police, City of Brighton & Hove.
Subedar Mir Dast was an Indian soldier in the British Indian Army who received the Victoria Cross for his exceptional bravery during the Second Battle of Ypres in 1915, making him one of the few recipients of this highest award for gallantry from India.
