What is recorded here

Milecastle 37 stands west of Housesteads Roman Fort, its short axis and Type I gateway still visible after partial reconstruction. Excavations revealed a small barrack block, altars to Cocidius and Jupiter, and a north gate that was built, blocked, then partly demolished. Two turrets flanked the castle, one reduced to a faint earthwork and the other marked by a stone-studded platform, while the Hadrian's Wall Path still leads walkers past the ruins where Roman soldiers once watched the frontier.
