Mile Castle 58

Archaeological place

What is recorded here

Mile Castle 58 marks a small military outpost on the northern border, built to watch the road and report danger back the line. It stands in Cumberland now, reduced to a low ridge of stones and memory. A guard may have stood there in darkness, listening for hooves or shouting across the valley. The castle did not need to be large; it only needed to be seen, remembered, and defended.
Mile Castle 58 is shown as a archaeological place on the public map of Cumberland. The saved point is the map point or the centre of its mapped shape.
