Midden

What is recorded here

In sand dunes on the N shoreline of Omey Island, c. 90m to the E of another midden (GA021-046----). This midden (L c. 55m) is exposed intermittently in the dunes and is obscured in places by the recent collapse of overhanging sod and sand. It is mainly composed of limpet shells but some razor and periwinkle shells are also visible. Some flecks of charcoal are also evident through the shell deposit. This area of dunes has been heavily eroded as evidenced by the field posts now dangling in front of them. Further middens (GA021-045---- and GA021-039002-) are evident c. 170m and c. 195m to the WNW and NW respectively. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 15 May 2014
