What is recorded here
Mounds of shells were observed in the past at this location on the small promontory which juts out northwards into Smerwick Harbour between Trá an Fhíona and Béal Bán. The site is now occupied by a large sand-dune.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 1. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
