Michael de la Pole, John Rochester, James Walworth, and The Charterhouse, Hull blue plaque

This blue commemorative plaque records: Here, from its foundation by Sir Michael de la Pole in 1378, until 1539, stood the priory of Saint Michael. Called The Charterhouse the Carthusians John Rochester and James Walworth were detained here before their execution in 1537. Recorded plaque organisation: Kingston upon Hull City Council.

Michael de la Pole was an influential English statesman and founder of the Charterhouse at Hull in 1378; John Rochester and James Walworth, Carthusian monks detained at this priory, were executed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries for refusing to acknowledge Henry VIII as supreme head of the Church.
