The Mesaba was a British steamship that sank in 1915 during World War I after being torpedoed by a German U-boat in the North Atlantic. The vessel was en route from New York to Liverpool, carrying a cargo of iron ore; 681 of the 738 crew members lost their lives, making it one of the deadliest maritime disasters of the war for the United Kingdom.
