Melville Castle, Iron Footbridge spans a narrow gap in Midlothian as a 19th Century footbridge, built for people walking past rather than cars rushing by. The iron work still suggests a time when bridges were made to be felt under human feet, not measured in traffic volume. Whether it carried visitors to the castle or workers across a estate lane, it served ordinary movement with unusual pride.
