What is recorded here
West Lodge still stands at Megginch Castle in Perth and Kinross, a gate lodge whose exact age has never been recorded. It may have marked the boundary between private land and public road, forcing carts and riders to slow before entering castle grounds. The unrecorded period leaves a hole in its story, but the function remains clear: a threshold built to be seen, judged and remembered.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Megginch Castle, West Lodge as Gate Lodge (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
