Megalithic structure in Rockhill

On the S-facing slope of Kilronan Mounatain, but the exact location is unknown. A 'Leaba', described as a large capstone (dims. c. 3m x 3m; T c. 1.5m) which had been affected by heather fires and is connected with a story of a snake or morloch guarding a treasure. It was situated c. 1.5 km N of 'Lassar Well' (RO004-002----). There is no knowledge of it today, but it could be any of the known megalithic monuments in the Keadew area, perhaps the cairn (RO002-022----) or it could be buried under a slag-heap created by coal-mining. A second possible structure (RO0002-031----), is said to be c. 500m to the E at a place called Gorteenvemore. (Sharkey 1927, 153) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
