Medieval fortified house, known as the Camera of Adam, Heaton

Scheduled monument

What is recorded here

Adam’s camera rose in Heaton as a fortified house, its walls built to keep out danger and claim local pride. It belongs to the Medieval period and still carries that name because people remembered Adam long after the stones stopped being new. The house may have hosted feasts, frightened travellers or hidden families during storms. Its name is a gift from memory, passed down until the place became a monument.
The National Heritage List for England records Medieval fortified house, known as the Camera of Adam, Heaton as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
