What is recorded here

Matilda was a small Thurso sloop that struck Castlehill in Dunnet Bay during the violent winter of 1862. Her cargo of oilcake and coal washed ashore, damaged but recoverable, while the little vessel fought the Pentland Firth currents. She may still lie beneath the bay, waiting for a diver brave enough to test the memory against the sea.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Matilda: Castlehill, Dunnet Bay, Pentland Firth as Sloop (19th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
