This blue commemorative plaque records: This plaque marks the site of Babington Hall, townhouse of the conspirator Anthony Babington. Mary Queen of Scots stayed here on the night of 13th January 1585
Mary Stuart was Queen of Scotland from 1542 to 1567 and a focal point in the Catholic-Protestant conflicts of her time; Anthony Babington, who owned this hall, led a plot to assassinate Elizabeth I of England and restore Mary to the throne, leading to Mary's execution.
