Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Marquel as Stone Row (neolithic) - (bronze Age)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

A Neolithic or Bronze Age stone row; such features are often associated with ritual or ceremonial activity, possibly aligned with seasonal or astronomical events. Local folklore may link it to ancient pathways or territorial markers.
