Markenfield Hall is an early 14th-century moated manor house in North Yorkshire, built for John de Markenfield after the Crown granted a licence to crenellate in 1310. Its L-shaped castellated block rises above an undercroft, guarded by a moat and a gatehouse, while emparked land stretches west and north of the residence. The hall, adjoining land, and park pale remain a scheduled monument, preserving a fortified domestic world where service buildings and deer management sustained a powerful local household.
