This commemorative plaque records: From 1764 to 1792 there stood on this site in Cumberland St. the Manchester Poor House. The building later became 'The Duke of Cumberland' tavern from (1819 - 1901). Recorded plaque organisation: Manchester City Council.
The site housed the Manchester Poor House from 1764 to 1792, providing relief for the destitute; it later served as a public house named after the Duke of Cumberland, operating from 1819 to 1901.
