What is recorded here
Beneath Tullyear in County Down, a man-made passage descends into darkness, perhaps leading to a hidden rath where people once lived or hid. The stone mouth still breathes cool air, inviting curiosity and warning together. Whatever purpose it served, human hands shaped the passage and human fear or ambition filled it.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as Man-made underground passage & possible RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
