Man-made underground passage in Poularick

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Under Poularick in County Cork, an unseen passage stretches through solid earth, defying the empty ground above. Whether people built it for trade, flight or worship remains unknown, but the absence of a visible entrance suggests human hands shaped the dark. The land keeps its secret intact, waiting for someone patient enough to listen for the hollow sound beneath their feet.
Local tradition of underground chambers. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
