What is recorded here
No one knows the exact length, depth or purpose of the hidden passage beside the Moyny Middle ringfort. It may have been a refuge, a tunnel or a forgotten route beneath the earth. The missing facts preserve the mystery rather than diminish the place.
Tradition of Man-made underground passage on N side of ringfort (CO119-056---). No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
