Man-made underground passage in Lonagh

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Under the Lonagh ringfort, local tradition claims a man-made passage still waits in darkness, though no entrance or surface trace remains for anyone to find. The forgotten tunnel may have served as a hiding place, a water route, or a ceremonial path, shaping the lives of people who no longer leave behind a name. What is missing is not empty; it is a hole in memory where human ingenuity and fear went down together.
Local tradition of Man-made underground passage in ringfort (CO135-099001-). No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
