Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Located on the bog-covered floor of the Glenbeigh horseshoe, on a slight rise immediately above Lough Naparka. A complex of five rectangular huts and a Man-made underground passage occurs within a network of field walls, partly submerged in boggy pasture. The drystone-built Man-made underground passage (KE071-056002-) consists of two passages set at right angles to one another and communicated by a double lintelled creepway. The E-W passage measures 2.7m long, .9m high and 1.1m wide, and the N-S passage is 2m long, .9m high and .8m wide. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1301. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 1 August 2013
