Man-made underground passage in Carrickrobin

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Isolated Man-made underground passage, situated at edge of a slight ridge. L-shaped in plan, consisting of a corbelled passage (L 6.8m, Wth 1-1.2m, H 1.2m) extending NW-SE. At the SE end of the passage a drop-hole (1m square, total drop 1.7m) gives access to a gallery (L 6.7m, H 0.5-1.5m) extending ENE-WSW. Drystone-built throughout.
