Man-made underground passage in Ballymacquin Upper

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

The interior [of ringfort (KE020-004----)] is at a higher level than the surrounding land and contains at least five small mounds; these could be the remains of a Man-made underground passage (KE020-004001-) since 'cave' is marked on the 1842 OS map. The mounds in the interior would appear to be constructed of stone. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 676. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
