Man-made underground passage in Ballinlag

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

No visible chamber, no named owner, no unique claim. A thin stone gap under a Mayo rath, blocked and forgotten. Perhaps someone dug through solid ground to hide, listen, or leave without being seen. The gap still points downward, waiting for a hand bold enough to test the dark.
Located to W of centre in the interior of a rath (MA071-106----). A lintelled opening (Wth c. 0.6m; H 0.2m) at ground surface reveals a drystone subterranean passage on a roughly NE–SW axis. The opening is blocked with stone and the passage is inaccessible. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 19 August 2021
