Man-made underground passage in Ardrah (bantry By.)

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

In a farmyard, on a terrace on a S-facing slope with views across the valley of the Mealagh River to Mullaghmesha. According to Myler (1998, 64 no. 41), the wheels of a delivery truck sank into a Man-made underground passage chamber in the corner of the farmyard. Local investigators at that time described two chambers extending to the S. There are no visible remains of this Man-made underground passage. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
