No visible entrance appears at Cloghaunnanoon, yet the name Clochán na nUamhan means cave, hinting that human hands shaped darkness beneath the low-lying crescent surrounding Smerwick Harbour. The passage may have served as a hidden refuge, a storage place, or a forgotten route through the ringfort, while people above walked past ordinary stone. Its absence from modern sight does not erase the shape of the claim: the land itself still points downward.

Possible Man-made underground passage described by Cuppage (1986, 181, no. 521) as follows; 'Cloghaunnanoon/Clochán na nUamhan: This roughly circular ringfort [KE042-058----] is situated in the low-lying crescent of land that surrounds Smerwick Harbour, about 100m N of the early ecclesiastical site at Reask (KE042-060001-). The name of the site (uamhain = cave) suggests the presence of a Man-made underground passage'.
