This green commemorative plaque records: Birthplace of Malcolm Laing, Historian 1762-1818 and Samuel Laing, Travel writer and translator of Heimskringla 1780-1868. Their father, Robert Laing, 1722-1803 planted the Big Tree.
Malcolm Laing was a Scottish historian known for his work "The History of Scotland," while Samuel Laing, his brother, was a notable travel writer and translator who rendered Snorri Sturluson's "Heimskringla" into English; their father, Robert Laing, is remembered for planting the Big Tree.
