Maiden Castle, Quarry

Quarry (period Unassigned)

What is recorded here

Quarry tools bit through Aberdeenshire rock while people watched the chipped edges and measured how much the mountain had lost. The castle name suggests a castle, but the quarried ground suggests removal, as if the hill gave up shape to supply another place.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Maiden Castle, Quarry as Quarry (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
