Maiden Castle on Duniface Hill in Fife is a medieval motte, though no surviving detail records who built it or when. The hill may have worn a small wooden tower, a guard post or a forgotten residence before time smoothed its edges. People may have climbed it to watch the coast, judge weather or simply belong somewhere visible. The castle has lost its name and purpose, but the hill still holds the shape of human ambition.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Maiden Castle, Duniface Hill as Motte (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
