Magowna Castle stands in ruins at Caherbannagh, County Clare, a stripped tower house reduced to ghost walls rather than a intact fortress. It belongs to the cluttered Clare castle field where stone still marks territorial pride even when roofs and rooms are gone. The absence is the point: a tower house does not need a complete chamber to keep its name, boundary and memory alive.

Magowna Castle was built in the 16th century by the O'Donovan family, a prominent Gaelic Irish clan in the region. It is remembered as an example of late medieval tower house architecture in west Munster and reflects the defensive needs of the period.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
