Loudoun Castle became a military training camp in the twentieth century, placing soldiers inside a castle landscape rather than beside one. The combination suggests men drilling past old stone, learning violence and discipline where history already watched. East Ayrshire gave the camp both identity and edge, while the castle remained the unusual heart of the military use.
