Why this matters
Longmore Point is a headland composed primarily of Cretaceous Chalk, formed from the accumulation of marine microorganisms over 66 to 145 million years ago. It is notable as a coastal feature in the Chichester area, where the Chalk forms part of the South Downs' western extent and is eroded by the English Channel.
