Longcastle Schoolhouse stands in Dumfries and Galloway as a 19th Century teaching room, its walls built to shape young minds before modern classrooms existed. Children may have sat beneath those roofs, learning reading and arithmetic while rain struck the roof above. The building remains a marker of when education became common enough to need its own stone rooms.
