Lochslin Castle stands half-swallowed by turf near Loch Eye, its two keeps joined at a corner where a staircase once climbed into darkness. Mackenzie hands built the larger block with angle turrets, but time has reduced most of it to a low rectangular scar in the ground. What remains is not grand; it is a fragment sharp enough to show the shape of the whole, waiting for someone to imagine the guard, the firelight and the footsteps that are no longer there.
