Lochleven Castle is a ruined stone fortress on a small island in Loch Leven, built around 1300 to control the busy water route between Edinburgh, Stirling and Perth. It survived English sieges, Douglas ownership, and the imprisonment of Mary, Queen of Scots, who escaped in 1568 after being forced to give up the crown. Today the old walls still rise from the loch, marking a place where kings, invaders and a young queen all collided.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Lochleven Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Lochleven Castle was built in the 15th century by the Ruthven family, a powerful Scottish noble family. It is best known as the site where Mary, Queen of Scots, was imprisoned in 1567.
