Llandyfriog Castle Mound

Archaeological place

What is recorded here

Llandyfriog Castle Mound is an archaeological place in Ceredigion, Wales. Perhaps the mound stood tall before humans arrived, a natural birthplace for human ambition. Maybe the castle was built on top of that ancient shape, human pride layered upon natural pride. Imagine the ditch cut through soil that remembered being a mountain, the castle rooms opening onto views the hill had already seen.
The motte was leveled in 1980 and the 5m-wide ditch has been infilled. Still a site of archeological interest and a scheduled monument.
